I used to study a short story about Nightingale when I was young. I remembered that she was called " The Lady with a Lamp". Besides, I remembered a portrait of her that wearing housekeeper dress and standing among wounded soldiers with a lamp in her right hand. But, just yesterday, I came across to hear a young student reading her history which named her as " Angle in White" in stead of " The Lady with a Lamp ". I would think that nurses in those days did not wear uniform white dresses. So, could anyone kindly explain this conflict to me.

I supposedly have had 2 female relatives who worked as upstairs and downstairs maids to Florence. Unknown if this is as a child or adult at the moment. I would need to see dates and they are at home. Could you tell me if she, in fact, had these maids and do you know their names? I remember one name was Fanny Dowding. Can you help with this? If not, can you point me a good direction? Thanks.
